Metro 13 gets nod to link Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar as Maharashtra clears projects worth Rs 28,227 crore

On Tuesday, Maharashtra's Cabinet Infrastructure Committee approved transportation projects worth Rs 28,227 crore for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune regions. The Metro 13 project, costing Rs 17,724.99 crore, will link Mira-Bhayandar with Vasai-Virar, extending the rail transit network across Thane and Palghar districts.

This 25.03-km corridor will feature 16 stations, including 13 elevated and three underground, with a key feature being the 4.92-km Vasai Creek bridge connecting Panju Island. Upon completion, the Metro 13 project is expected to transport 4.49 lakh passengers daily and cut travel times by approximately 50% compared to road journeys.

Implementation will be handled by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the entire project is slated for completion within five years. The Pune Ring Road Eastern Extension project, valued at Rs 10,502.36 crore, aims to divert inter-state and inter-city traffic away from Pune city. This 31.805-km stretch will run from Sortapwadi to Varve Budruk Shivare and feature 18 elevated sections, four tunnels, and three major bridges.

The government has already acquired 80% of the necessary land, with completion projected for June 2029.
