Canada sexual assault case: Indian-origin man arrested over assault of young woman

A 40-year-old Indian man, Jagendar Kurana, has been arrested and charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman at Bear Creek Park in Surrey, Canada, according to police. The incident was reported on August 9, and Kurana was arrested on August 12 after investigators released images of him and sought the public's assistance in identifying him.

On the night of the alleged assault, the victim, a female youth, reported to police that she had been groped by a man at the park. Officers responded to the scene, spoke with the victim, and Kurana fled the area. The Surrey police subsequently launched an investigation and released images of the suspect to the public for identification.

After analyzing the information, police matched Kurana's description with that of the suspect and subsequently arrested him on August 12. The Surrey Police Service confirmed the charges against Kurana, including two criminal charges of sexual assault and sexual interference.

Kurana is currently being held in police custody and awaits a bail hearing at his next scheduled court appearance. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
