Maraga calls on Kenyans to donate to his 2027 presidential campaign

Former Chief Justice David Maraga is urging Kenyans to donate to his 2027 presidential campaign, expressing his desire to fund the election through general citizen support rather than relying on wealthy donors or other vested interests. In a campaign appeal, Maraga emphasized that funding his bid by Kenyans would convey the population's desire for change and belief in his leadership capabilities.

"If the campaign is funded by Kenyans, it signifies that Kenyans want change and believe in my ability to effect that transformation," Maraga stated. He encouraged citizens to contribute any amount they can, ranging from Sh10 to Sh100, urging support irrespective of the contribution's size. Maraga directed online supporters to his campaign website and provided a paybill number for those who prefer mobile money donations.

Under the campaign slogan "Ukatiba ndio tiba" or "The Constitution is the cure," Maraga framed his presidential bid around the themes of constitutionalism and the rule of law. In a video posted on August 18, 2026, he lamented the deterioration of law and order, rule of law, and social cohesion in Kenya. "Our nation is moving in the wrong direction," Maraga asserted.

"Everywhere you look, there's a breakdown in law and order, the rule of law, and our humanity as a society." Leveraging his tenure as former Chief Justice, Maraga urged Kenyans to adhere to constitutional principles, warning of potential societal chaos if such principles were disregarded. "My administration aims to restore order, as neglecting the Constitution leads to anarchy," he cautioned.

Maraga's political vision involves "resetting, restoring, and rebuilding" Kenya based on his interpretation of the "Ukatiba" philosophy, which advocates for a return to constitutional order.
