LG Electronics accelerates robotics collaboration with NVIDIA

Seoul - LG Electronics convened with top NVIDIA executives at its upcoming Data Factory in Yangjae R&D Campus, a day after both organizations inked a memorandum of understanding for joint robotics ventures. The Data Factory, slated to complete by year-end, spans 10,000 square meters across four floors and will house hundreds of robots.

LG's home robots will generate and gather data within the facility, which features training zones for task practice, a replicated home setup for cleaning tasks, and a simulated manufacturing space akin to LG's Tennessee washing machine plant. This data will merge with NVIDIA's robotics stack, comprising components like NVIDIA Omniverse libraries, Cosmos open world models, and the Isaac robotics development platform.

By year's end, the facility aims to accumulate 100,000 hours of training data, a blend of real-world data and synthetic data generated via NVIDIA Cosmos. This collaboration aims to propel LG's Robot Foundation Model and solidify its position as a comprehensive robotics solutions provider. Lyu Jae-cheol, LG Electronics' CEO, announced that this year marks the launch of the company's robotics business push, with plans to broaden from industrial and commercial robots to home robots.
