Lawyer Kinyanjui demands Sh50 million in damages over alleged post on Sh25 million claims

Nairobi lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui has demanded Sh50 million in damages from businessman Michael Makarina over an alleged post on social media. According to prosecutors, the post, published on August 17, falsely linked Kinyanjui to a Sh25.4 million bribery scheme involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The post, made by Makarina under the name "Hon.

Michael Makarina," stated that Kinyanjui had been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe to influence Supreme Court cases involving Gachagua. However, Kinyanjui's lawyers assert the claims are false and malicious. They argue that Kinyanjui was never arrested and never represented Gachagua in any Supreme Court cases. The lawyers claim the post damaged Kinyanjui's reputation and subjected him to public ridicule.

They sought an apology and removal of the post from online archives, along with confirmation of its removal. Kinyanjui also demanded Sh50 million in damages within seven days, threatening legal action if compliance is not met. The EACC dismissed reports of arresting a judge and lawyer over the bribery scheme, urging the public to rely on official EACC communication for accurate information.
