Kerala teen wanted iPhone for herself, bike for boyfriend. She planned grandfather’s murder with 3 friends

In Kerala’s Alappuzha, police discovered that a minor granddaughter planned the murder of her 65-year-old grandfather with three teenage friends for financial gain. The gang recorded footage of the crime and shared it with the girl, who was away from home at the time. They stole gold ornaments from the victim's rented house, where he had been alone for days.

His wife was hospitalized for the planned delivery of their daughter. The girl desired an iPhone for herself and a bike for her boyfriend, which motivated the plan. Upon realizing the victim was alone, she conspired with her friends. The 65-year-old was found dead, with his hands and legs tied, suggesting he was smothered. The gang entered the house through a rear door and destroyed evidence by throwing chilli powder around the house.

The girl, living away from her grandfather, alerted neighbors on Monday morning, leading to the police investigation. The arrested teenagers, all from Kollam, will face murder charges, but the case will be handled under the Juvenile Justice Act.
