Kerajaan akan bina ‘linkage’ RTS Link-KTMB Komuter RM60 juta

The Malaysian government plans to build a continuous link or "linkage" between the Ringgit Komuter (KTMB) and the Bukit Chagar Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, with a cost of RM60 million, according to Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook. This project aims to improve the integration of public transportation and make it easier for passengers to reach the LRT system.

The linkage will allow passengers using the KTMB Komuter to continue their journey directly to the Bukit Chagar LRT station without the need for far-reaching transfers at JB Central station.

Loke Siew Fook stated that once completed, passengers using KTMB Komuter and stopping at the KTMB Komuter station will be able to seamlessly continue their journey to the Bukit Chagar LRT station. This will benefit many passengers and encourage the use of public transportation to reach Bukit Chagar or exit from Bukit Chagar. The linkage is expected to take around 12 months to prepare and will reduce the walking distance between the commuter station and the LRT Link.

The government is also planning to implement Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) 2.0, which includes the addition of at least 200 new buses to provide services from residential areas around Johor Bahru to Bukit Chagar. When the LRT starts operating, more buses will be available, and the government is preparing to provide at least 200 new buses to cover the residential areas around Johor Bahru, most of which will go to Bukit Chagar.

The agreement with the LRT operators is being finalized, and the final approval will need to be obtained from the Ministry of Finance. The addition of buses is planned to be carried out in conjunction with the opening of the LRT Link to ensure efficient passenger flow.
