Karachi Bans CNG, LPG Use in Student Transport Vehicles

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has mandated an outright prohibition on the utilization of CNG and LPG in vehicles employed for student transportation. As per a notice issued on August 6, 2026, BSEK Secretary Dr. Naveed Ahmed has directed heads of affiliated institutions to ensure that operators of student pick and drop services adhere to the ban.

The board has warned that vehicles contravening the directives will not be permitted to operate as school transportation and will be subject to penalties, including impoundment. BSEK has instructed institutions to immediately cease the unauthorized use of CNG and LPG in their transportation vehicles, including during holiday periods.

The board has also ordered schools to conduct regular inspections and monitor student transport vehicles to ensure adherence to legal provisions and judicial directives. Furthermore, educational institutions are required to launch awareness campaigns to educate parents, students, and transporters about the hazards of using CNG and LPG, as well as the Gujrat case precedent.
