Jailed former Pakistan PM Imran Khan moved to hospital over health concerns

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been moved to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad due to health concerns, according to a court order. Khan, 73, has been in jail since August 2023 after being convicted in a string of cases that he claims were politically motivated following his ouster in 2022. His sons had repeatedly expressed concerns about his deteriorating health, with his lawyers noting that he had lost significant vision in his right eye while in prison.

The court directed that Khan be moved to the hospital within 48 hours and remain there until September 16. A medical panel, including a cardiologist, general medicine specialist, eye specialist, and Khan's personal physician, will be created for his treatment. Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party welcomed the order, urging supporters to stay away from the hospital.

His younger son, Kasim, emphasized that Khan's health is the priority. Khan and his supporters have protested his imprisonment, but there was no immediate response from the government to the court order.
