High Court to deliver Aug 24 ruling on Negeri Sembilan Undang eviction summons

SEREMBAN, Aug 18 — The High Court has scheduled its ruling on an eviction summons filed by the Negeri Sembilan state government for Aug 24, at 4 pm via Zoom. The summons, sought by the state government to vacate the halls and residences of Undang Rembau and Undang Sungei Ujong, was filed on July 16 and 17. The state government accuses occupants Abdul Rahim Yasin and Datuk Mubarak Thahak of trespassing without legal rights, license, or permission.

The government claims ownership of the premises, which have been designated as public reserve land under the National Land Code. Counsel Muhammad Hariz argued that the government has the legal standing to file the summons, citing relevant sections of the Government Proceedings Act and National Land Code. However, Choo Shi Jin and Asmawi Ismail, representing the respondents, challenged the state government's authority to bring the action, arguing that control over state land belongs to the state director of Lands and Mines, not the state government.
