From her grandmother’s kitchen to the Air Force

Sergeant Kholofelo Faith Sebothoma's culinary journey began in Doornlaagte, a small village in Mpumalanga's Nkangala District. Growing up in a humble home, she was inspired by her grandmother, Koko Magdeline Mammule Mampuru, who took great joy in preparing meals. The love for cooking ignited in Sebothoma's childhood home remained a constant source of motivation throughout her life.

Sebothoma's passion for cooking evolved into a professional career, starting at the South African Air Force Catering School. Here, she developed her culinary skills with military precision, discovering that cooking encompasses more than just meal preparation. It symbolizes service, teamwork, and care.

Enlisting in the South African Air Force in 2017, Sebothoma's path converged two significant aspects of her life: service and cooking. After completing Basic Military Training and the Junior Leadership Development Programme, she intensified her focus on culinary arts by earning a Kitchen Hand Course qualification. She furthered her education by successfully completing the Cook Course in 2023, officially becoming a chef.

Throughout her journey, Sebothoma emphasized the importance of hard work, discipline, perseverance, and a willingness to learn. Her grandmother's influence remains a constant source of inspiration. Sebothoma believes that greatness is not determined by one's starting point, but by the determination to pursue one's passion. She encourages young women and aspiring chefs to embrace every stage of their journey, reminding them that every towering tree begins as a tiny seed.

Sebothoma's commitment to personal development extends beyond the kitchen. Currently, she is studying for a Diploma in Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of South Africa. Her story exemplifies the power of determination and the potential for greatness in even the most humble beginnings.
