Fifa sacking 'deeply troubling' - Uefa executive

Uefa executive Laura McAllister has condemned the decision by Fifa to dismiss senior executive Kevin Lamour, stating that it sends a deeply troubling message to all those seeking change. Lamour was the chief operating officer at Fifa and his dismissal came after he criticized the organization's president, Gianni Infantino, over a plan to sell stakes in competitions to private investors.

McAllister described Lamour as an honourable and exemplary sports leader, a brave advocate for the values that should underpin the game, and a courageous advocate for the most important stakeholders. Uefa has already expressed its loss of confidence in Infantino, accusing Fifa of breaking trust through deception. The loss of Lamour's leadership, who operated on principles of respect, independence, transparency, and sound governance, weakens Fifa's administration and undermines the opportunity to shift the culture at Fifa and reset the organization on sporting values.
