Ferrovial, a company founded by the Del Pino family, is increasing its presence in digital projects related to artificial intelligence (AI). The company, which will no longer be listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange (Netherlands) since September, is accelerating the construction of a new data center in Warsaw, Poland, this year to serve large-scale companies like Microsoft and Google.
The Polish project, which has been in the pipeline for three years, will be developed through an alliance between Ferrovial and its subsidiary, Budimex, which recently acquired the rights to a real estate project.
The investment in the new technological complex is estimated to be around 500 million euros, although the figure is subject to change due to the project's scalability as demand from clients increases. The data center will consist of four large buildings on a 45,000 square meter site. It will be equipped with four 320 cubic meter diesel tanks and 49 generators with a maximum power of 2,420 kW, resulting in a total generation capacity of approximately 118 megawatts.
Water requirements will be covered by the local utility company. An additional 1,102 cubic meter rainwater and snowmelt storage tank will also be constructed.
Ferrovial's Warsaw project aligns with other digital investments in the local market, where there is a significant shortage of infrastructure to support cloud computing and AI services. In Spain, Ferrovial's other major data center project in Europe is located in Madrid. The company announced its first Spanish data center this summer, located on grounds of the Alcobendas Municipal Council (Madrid).
The project, supported by the Community of Madrid, is considered of special interest due to the streamlined and coordinated process for complex and large-scale infrastructures.
