Every product in this supermarket is made from felt. All 20,000 of them

Red hots. Frosted Flakes. Wonder Bread. The shelves inside the Momentary gallery in Bentonville, Arkansas, are filled with childhood supermarket favorites. Except they look a tick off. The Frosted Flakes box is a little squat, and the Wonder Bread bag features almost hand-scrawled type. That’s because everything in this space is made from felt. All 20,000 objects. Every product in this supermarket is made from felt. All 20,000 of them

The Momentary gallery in Bentonville, Arkansas, is currently hosting an exhibition titled "The Beginning of Convenience," featuring over 20,000 handmade felt objects. British artist Lucy Sparrow, known for her immersive installations recreating everyday retail spaces, has spent two years recreating a nostalgic 1970s to 1990s supermarket.

The exhibition spans three galleries and takes up 400 square feet of space. Sparrow has recreated a full-scale supermarket, complete with a VHS video section, to evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia while also feeling slightly unsettling. Her art often focuses on recreating everyday community spaces and turning them into theatrical artistic environments.

Sparrow has learned to create her own neon signs for the project. Alongside the supermarket recreation, the exhibition will also feature a 30-minute behind-the-scenes documentary and a collection of vintage ads produced by Sparrow. In the third gallery, visitors will find a recreation of Sparrow's own studio, with the aim of inspiring joy and nostalgia in the exhibition-goers, sparking conversation between generations. The exhibition is open from July 18, 2026 to July 11, 2027.
