‘End this cycle of killings’ – Peter Obi tells FG after fresh Sokoto, Benue attacks

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government and other relevant authorities to take immediate action to put an end to the ongoing killings and insecurity plaguing the country. In a statement shared on his official X handle, Obi expressed his sorrow over the recent incidents in Ungushi, Sokoto State, where 32 Nigerians were reportedly killed, and Ukum, Benue State, where several lives were lost and others injured.

He emphasized that these victims were not mere statistics but parents, children, and breadwinners whose deaths left families and communities in mourning. Obi stated, "Let’s end this cycle of killings. The killings in Ungushi, Sokoto, where 32 Nigerians reportedly lost their lives, and the recent attacks in Ukum, Benue, where more lives have been lost and several others injured, are deeply painful."

He urged the government to prioritize addressing insecurity by improving intelligence, adopting proactive security measures, ensuring swift responses, protecting vulnerable communities, and holding perpetrators accountable. Obi called for better protection of citizens' lives and property, stating that Nigerians should be able to live without fear at home, on the roads, and in their farms.

"We need better intelligence, proactive security, swift responses, protection for vulnerable communities, and the diligent prosecution of perpetrators," he reiterated. "The government must endeavor to protect the lives and property of its citizens. Nigerians should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes, travel safely on our roads, and go to their farms without fear."

Obi expressed his condolences to the families and communities affected by these senseless killings, hoping for God's comfort for the bereaved, Allah's forgiveness for the departed, and lasting peace for the nation.
