Dax aktuell: Dax schließt im Minus – Chiphersteller verliert über sieben Prozent

Düsseldorf - The German benchmark index, the Dax, closed at 26,128 points on Tuesday, down by about 0.8 percent. After a positive start, the Dax fell further in the afternoon. On Monday, the index ended the trading day down by 0.4 percent at 26,339 points. Nevertheless, the German benchmark index is still in a strong phase and is close to its recent record high of 26,573 points.

This marks the 15th record this year, despite geopolitical crises and persistently weak German economy. The Dax companies benefit primarily from the solid global economy, which boosts their overseas revenues. The ongoing stock rally is considered robust; however, private investors should not become overly enthusiastic. Recent findings from the Handelsblatt survey on Dax sentiment show early warning signs.

It suggests that follow-through buyers may be lacking to push prices higher. Moreover, the growing self-satisfaction among private investors could become dangerous. Thomas Altmann of QC Partners observed very restrained profit-taking on Tuesday morning despite high valuations and rising interest rates. The trading volume on Monday was the second-lowest in this year.

"Investors are in a wait-and-see mode. Nobody wants to buy, but hardly anyone wants to sell either," says Altmann.
