Corinthians confirm Memphis Depay contract renewal

Corinthians president Osmar Stabile has confirmed the renewal of forward Memphis Depay's contract on Monday night (17). The decision ends a dramatic turn in contract negotiations and ensures Depay's continued presence at the São Paulo club. The new contract will be in effect until mid-2028.

The 32-year-old Dutch forward is expected to rejoin the squad on Tuesday morning (18) at CT Joaquim Grava, under the guidance of coach Fernando Diniz. To reach an agreement, Depay made significant concessions, lowering the total value of the contract by approximately R$30 million.

The confirmation of Depay's stay at the club follows tense negotiations between the player and the soccer team's leadership. Initially, Stabile, the Corinthians president, ended the negotiations, stating that the club needed to remain financially responsible. However, facing significant pressure from fans and threats, Stabile reversed his decision and reopened talks, ultimately seeking to share the responsibility for the decision with the club's Advisory Council (Cori).

Stabile addressed the media at Parque São Jorge, confirming the details of the new deal. He confirmed that the club would be able to meet the financial obligations associated with the extended contract. The paperwork is being processed, and once entered into the system, Stabile plans to sign it.
