CM Murad okays NICVD plan to launch full heart transplant programme

KARACHI: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approved plans for a comprehensive heart transplant program and an advanced heart failure initiative at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) during the 85th Governing Body meeting held at CM House on Monday. Describing the initiatives as transformative steps for advanced cardiac care in Pakistan's public sector, Shah directed the NICVD management to collaborate with national and international institutions for technical assistance, training, and capacity building.

The government pledged to provide free life-saving cardiac treatment for all deserving patients. Over 1.32 million patients from outside Sindh were treated at NICVD between 2019 and 2025, with the institute conducting 9,279 primary percutaneous coronary interventions, over 1,400 cardiac surgeries, 3,069 paediatric catheterisation procedures, and various other cardiac interventions.

The CM emphasized the need for robust administrative and financial management systems to support the institute's expanding operations and service delivery responsibilities.
