CISR chief visits AMTZ, reviews MedTech ecosystem

Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), visited AMTZ on Tuesday to assess the progress of India's MedTech ecosystem. Dr. Kalaiselvi engaged with AMTZ's Managing Director and Founder CEO, Dr. Jitendra Sharma, as well as senior officials.

The director also toured various MedTech firms, including Pyramed, Molbio Diagnostics, Transasia Bio-Medicals, and Electra. She participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony for SS Medical Systems (I) Pvt. Ltd., a company set to expand its indigenous MedTech manufacturing capabilities utilizing OptiMaser technology in over 55,000 installations across India.

A significant highlight of the visit was the inauguration of AMTZ's expanded Medi Valley, a MedTech incubation platform backed by NITI Aayog. The facility, which has expanded to a 1-lakh Sqft tower, enables startups to swiftly transition from ideas to prototypes within six months and obtain regulatory approvals within a year. The platform provides access to specialized labs and facilities.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma expressed pride and inspiration at Dr. Kalaiselvi's visit, stating it marks the beginning of their next decade focused on accelerating indigenous innovation, strengthening the MedTech value chain, and building an Aatmanirbhar, globally competitive MedTech ecosystem in India. Dr. Kalaiselvi praised AMTZ for creating a comprehensive ecosystem where innovation, research, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship converge, calling it a model worth replicating across India.

She emphasized that ecosystems like AMTZ showcase the potential of indigenous innovation and bolster confidence in achieving Viksit Bharat 2047.

To foster stronger research linkages between startups and CSIR laboratories, Dr. Kalaiselvi announced that all 37 CSIR laboratories will be made accessible to AMTZ startups for research, technology, and innovation support, subject to specific terms and conditions.
