Chinese FM Wang Yi set to arrive in Seoul for talks on N. Korea, bilateral issues

Seoul is set to welcome Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for a two-day visit on Wednesday, following President Lee Jae Myung's proposal for multiparty talks to formally conclude the Korean War from 1950-53. The ministerial visit will focus on bilateral matters, including the Korean Peninsula situation, regional and international issues, and reviewing the progress made in restoring South Korea-China relations.

Wang will also meet with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and hold a separate meeting with National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac to discuss the security situation and other mutual interests. The trip aligns with President Lee's vision for peaceful coexistence with North Korea and efforts to promote inter-Korean relations, which have been strained since Lee assumed office in June 2025.

Wang's last visit to Seoul was in September 2021, and his previous meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun took place in Beijing in September.
