Canadian women dunk Senegal 72-57 in Olympic pre-qualifying tournament opener

Guadalajara - Canada's senior women's national basketball team began the FIBA Olympic pre-qualifying tournament with a convincing 72-57 victory over Senegal on Monday. Team captain Kayla Alexander led the scoring with a team-high 16 points and contributed seven rebounds. Syla Swords and Delaney Gibb added 13 points each for Canada.

Head coach Nell Fortner expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "I think it’s a good start for us. You always want to start with a win... It’s nice to get that first win under our belt." Canada's offensive rebounding was particularly notable, as they held a 15-8 advantage. The Canadians also led in points in the paint, shooting 52.5 percent from the area.
