Apple's iPhone 18 Release Schedule: What's Coming and When

Since 2019, Apple has released a more affordable standard iPhone and a higher-end Pro variant, providing customers with multiple flagship options. This year, Apple is deviating from its standard release timeline and splitting the iPhone 18 launch. The standard iPhone 18 will not be available until spring 2027, as Apple is holding it back for later. Those seeking an iPhone in the traditional September timeframe will have to wait and pay more.

Apple's three most expensive iPhones for fall 2026 will be unveiled at its iPhone event in September. The iPhone 18 Pro will resemble the iPhone 17 Pro but feature a smaller Dynamic Island and a variable aperture Wide camera for better lighting adjustments. It will use Apple's next-generation A20 chip on a 2nm process. The iPhone 18 Pro Max will be similar to the iPhone 17 Pro Max but potentially thicker due to a larger battery. Both models will be available in a new dark cherry color.

A first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Ultra, may debut as the iPhone 18. Closed, it will measure approximately 5.5 inches, expanding to around 7.8 inches when unfolded. Featuring Touch ID instead of Face ID, it will include a two-camera system. Industry experts believe the iPhone 18 Pro models will be pricier than their iPhone 17 Pro counterparts.

Memory shortages have driven up the cost of consumer DRAM, and Apple faces higher expenses for memory components. Some of these cost increases may be offset by discounts on other components, but a price increase seems inevitable after the June Mac and iPad price hike. Analysts estimate a $100 to $300 increase for both models. At current pricing, the iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is priced at $1,199.

The foldable iPhone's price is speculative, with rumors suggesting it will range between $2,000 and $2,500.
