APM wins all chairmanship seats in Bauchi LG poll

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has officially declared the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as the winner of the recent local government elections in Bauchi Local Government Area (LGA). BASIEC Chairperson, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, announced the results on Monday, noting that APM secured all 20 chairmanships as well as 319 out of the 323 councilor positions.

Abubakar stated that this victory came after the complete process of voting, counting, and collation of results. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) managed to win one of the five councillor seats in Dandango Ward, while the National Rescue Movement (NRM) claimed the remaining four councillor positions in Darazo South Ward. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won Zirami Ward in Giade LGA, while the Young Progressive Party (YPP) secured the final seat in Wandi Ward, Dass LGA.

BASIEC declared the APM candidates duly elected, confirming they fulfilled all legal requirements and garnered the highest valid votes in the election. However, some opposition parties boycotted the poll, citing that it breached the 2026 Bauchi State Electoral Act. These parties include African Democratic Congress (ADC), African Action Congress (AAC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
