2027: Reps minority caucus urges opposition unity to defeat APC

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called on opposition political parties, leaders, and presidential aspirants to unite against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. This call came after a closed-door meeting in Abuja with representatives of G-100, a group advocating for a stronger and more coordinated opposition.

The Minority Leader, Frederick Agbedi, emphasized the need for opposition parties to put aside personal ambitions and focus on the national interest. He urged opposition stakeholders to collaborate and create a credible alternative to the ruling APC, stating that the hardship faced by Nigerians is a driving force behind this renewed push for unity.

G-100's open letter, "The Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition," also advocates for a unified opposition, arguing that fragmentation could weaken democratic accountability. Both the Minority Caucus and G-100 agreed to collaborate further and participate in an opposition summit scheduled for August 31 to strategize for the upcoming elections.

The recent Osun State governorship election was highlighted as an example of Nigerians' determination to protect their democratic rights, urging them to stand firm against any attempts to compromise their votes. While acknowledging the efforts of INEC, Agbedi stressed the importance of INEC ensuring a transparent, fair, and credible election in 2027.
