WATCH: Westbury residents trapped in daily barrage of gang gunfire

Residents of Westbury in Johannesburg continue to endure a daily barrage of gang gunfire, prompting an ongoing atmosphere of fear. A video of the persistent gunshots, which circulated widely on social media, has shed light on the relentless nature of the violence. The footage, captured over a span of three minutes, depicted multiple gunshots emanating from a block of flats. Suspects are seen running around, and voices in the video confirm the presence of gunfire from a .38 revolver.

The video also captured the intense screams of residents and the sound of what appeared to be a machine gun. Amidst the chaos, a suspect wearing a white cap and grey top was observed firing his weapon. The residents' frustration is palpable as they live in constant fear of becoming victims of the gang violence that has taken over their neighborhood.

In a tragic incident on Saturday, August 15, three individuals were killed and two others wounded in a mass shooting in a neighboring area, Newclare. The Sophiatown police have launched investigations into the incident, filing three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the lifeless bodies of three victims, aged between 18 and 20, who were found dead inside a flat.

Emergency medical services confirmed that two additional victims, aged 18 and 23, suffered gunshot wounds and were promptly transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
