UDFA's preseason mistake proves costly; Cowboys WR waived to make room for Von Miller

Traeshon Holden, the 25-year-old undrafted free agent wide receiver from Oregon, made a costly mistake during the Dallas Cowboys' preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Instead of picking up a loose ball on his own 2-yard line, Holden fumbled, giving the Seahawks excellent field position. The error proved to be a turning point for Holden's career with the Cowboys.

Afterward, Holden was seen dejected on the bench, hiding his head under a towel. The Cowboys made the difficult decision to waive Holden on Monday, making room for eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller, who agreed to join the team. Holden, who had impressed during last year's training camp, was never part of the active roster during the regular season.

With veterans KaVontae Turpin, Ryan Flournoy, Jonathan Mingo, Denzel Mims, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Tyler Johnson, Jaden Smith, Anthony Smith, Jordan Hudson, and Camden Brown all competing for limited spots, Holden's chances of landing a job dwindled. The franchise tag was lifted, and Holden now has the opportunity to sign with another team or return to the Cowboys.
