Turkey's Erdogan urges Trump to continue US-Iran talks, offers support in diplomatic efforts

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan called US President Donald Trump to maintain discussions with Iran in an effort to reduce tensions, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency. The two leaders talked about the conflicts in Iran and Gaza, the defense pact involving Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, and their bilateral relations.

Erdogan emphasized the importance of utilizing diplomacy to address the tensions between Iran and the United States. He expressed hope that the talks would continue and highlighted Turkey's support for peace efforts. Furthermore, Turkey's foreign minister conversed with his Iranian counterpart on Tuesday, discussing the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the continuation of the US-Iran ceasefire.

Regarding the ongoing war in Gaza, Erdogan criticized Israel for continuing to attack Palestinians despite the second phase of President Trump's peace plan being expected to commence. He stated that Turkey remains committed to promoting lasting peace in the region and aiding in the reconstruction of Gaza.

On Sunday, President Trump praised the signing of the Joint Defense Agreement among Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, stating that it demonstrates the Middle East's unity and the ability of countries to defend themselves more effectively.
