Trump threatens to bomb Oman if it gets in way of Iran deal: report

President Donald Trump warned on Monday that he might bomb Oman if it interferes with a US-Iranian agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, according to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst. The potential conflict arose from ongoing discussions between Oman and Iran over maritime navigation rights in the strategic shipping route.

Iran's Foreign Ministry reportedly confirmed the talks were aimed at reaching a joint declaration. However, Trump maintained that the strait remains under US control despite a blockade imposed by Iran, which was initiated at the start of the Middle East war on February 28. On Friday, Trump had proposed to declare the Strait of Hormuz as part of US territory, while Iran maintained that the vital energy waterway would remain under their jurisdiction.

The Hormuz strait, once an open international waterway, now serves as a crucial conduit for global energy shipments and other commodities. Iran's control over the strait has been a point of contention in the ongoing conflict with the US, with Tehran leveraging the situation against US-led attempts to dismantle its military capabilities and halt its nuclear program.

Trump also suggested that Iran should "put up the white flag of surrender" in an interview with Yingst, and noted that there is an unofficial communication channel between his administration and Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
