Sun Devils icon James Harden talks 'Smiling Moose,' ASU, NBA

James Harden, a Sun Devils icon and former Arizona State basketball star, recently opened the Smiling Moose Sandwich Grill in Scottsdale. The restaurant, located at 2765 N. Scottsdale Road, Unit 103, features a signature menu and Rocky Mountain outdoor enthusiast inspired hospitality. Harden is part of the ownership group for the establishment.

In an interview with The Arizona Republic, Harden shared insights into his college days at ASU and his favorite menu items from the Smiling Moose. Harden recalled spending his free time at the rec center, playing basketball with fellow students. As for his favorite menu item, he expressed his love for the Mo, a sandwich that he describes as a Philly Cheesesteak with ground sirloin and toasted bread.

Regarding his current mindset for the remainder of his NBA career, Harden stated that his goal is to win a championship. He emphasized the significance of this endeavor, highlighting basketball as the most challenging sport in terms of achievements. Harden also expressed his excitement about being part of the Smiling Moose team, stating that it has been his home for many years and that it is fitting to have roots in the place that gave him his start.

The restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, burgers, and freshly baked cookies. The Original Mo sandwich, a fan favorite since Day 1, is made with sizzling grilled meat, melted cheese, crisp veggies, and a tangy vinaigrette on a fresh baguette.
