Reps group demands probe of Fadahunsi, Osun poll violence, deaths

The Save Democracy Group, a bipartisan coalition of House of Representatives members, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the violent incidents and fatalities surrounding the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election. The group's statement, issued in Abuja, expressed concern over the scale of violence that preceded and occurred during the poll, citing reports of 56 politically motivated violent incidents and 14 deaths.

They questioned the effectiveness of the extensive security deployment in Osun State, arguing that it should translate into effective protection of lives and property, rather than becoming a substitute for effective policing. The group specifically cited the alleged comments by Senator Francis Fadahunsi as warranting investigation, emphasizing that political leaders must be held accountable for statements that could inflame an already volatile political environment.

They urged the Inspector-General of Police, Department of State Services, National Human Rights Commission, and other relevant authorities to conduct thorough investigations into these allegations.
