Ongole Municipal Corporation to mark 150th anniversary with series of events

On September 30, 2026, Ongole Municipal Corporation will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The corporation was founded by the British government on the same date in 1876. To mark this milestone, a series of events have been planned starting August 24, 2026. These events will involve prominent local figures and are aimed at showcasing Ongole's historical significance.

State Minister for Social Welfare Dr. Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy encouraged residents to actively participate in the celebrations, emphasizing the city's rich heritage and future potential. He highlighted that Ongole has transformed from a village to a thriving city, and urged all citizens to contribute to making it a more livable and safe place, particularly for women.

Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao announced that the 40-year-old drinking water pipelines will be replaced and that development works will be carried out with a long-term perspective. Drainage systems are being constructed, and special attention is being given to the development of key roads. He mentioned that improvements in sanitation, electrification, and central lighting have already been completed, and assured that these initiatives will continue.

Collector P. Raja Babu stated that the celebrations aim to highlight the city's greatness for future generations and to beautify Ongole, which serves as a symbol of self-respect. The World Children’s Telugu Conference is also scheduled to be held in Ongole in December.
