NCIC summons Peter Kaluma over Homa Bay political remarks

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has issued a summons for Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma to appear before the commission in connection with political remarks he made in Homa Bay County. According to the commission's statement on August 17, 2026, Kaluma must attend an investigation at Britam Towers, Upper Hill, on August 19, 2026, at 10 am.

The summon, issued under the National Cohesion and Integration Act, pertains to remarks Kaluma made during a political engagement on August 15, 2026. The commission is investigating the statements attributed to him and has provided the original remarks in Dholuo and an English translation. The translated remarks call for accountability from those who have worked with opposing parties and express support for a two-term presidency for Ruto.

The NCIC is mandated to promote national unity and harmony, combat negative ethnicity, racism, religious intolerance, and hate speech. Kaluma, who represents Homa Bay Town Constituency and is a prominent member of the Orange Democratic Movement, is required to respond to the issues raised during the commission's inquiry. The summons comes amid heightened political mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders holding rallies and public engagements across the country.
