Mayat dalam jaring, 4 didakwa bunuh ahli perniagaan

Four men, Yogesvaran Subramaniam, Lim Yong Ming, Achuthan Nagarajan, and How Han Wei, were accused in Batu Pahat High Court today of killing a businessman whose body was found floating in a net. The accused, Yogesvaran Subramaniam, 40, Lim Yong Ming, 26, Achuthan Nagarajan, 32, and How Han Wei, 33, appeared to have only an understanding of the charge when it was read out in front of Judge Mustaqim Sukarno, according to Harian Metro.

No pleas were recorded from all four accused due to the crime falling under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Based on the charge sheet, they are jointly accused of killing Low Kai Xian, 39, between a food stall in Jalan Emas Putih, Taman Sri Skudai, Johor Bahru and the Tanjung Sembrong River, Parit Raja. The incident occurred between 2:35 pm and 12:30 pm, between July 29 and August 3 last year.

The accusations against them were made under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the Insanity Law. If found guilty, they could face death or imprisonment of at least 30 years and not exceeding 40 years, and, if not hanged, subjected to a minimum of 12 years in prison. Defense counsel Nur Shahzleen Ibrahim represented the prosecution, while Yogesvaran, Yong Ming, and How Han Wei were represented by Fareda Sabapathy.

Sean Dodley Samuel Jayarajan represented Achuthan Nagarajan. Chuah Shyue Chien and Kenji Soh Xin Da acted as observers for the victim's family. The accused requested the court to set a new date while awaiting autopsy report, DNA report, CCTV and mobile phone forensic reports. No bail bonds were offered for all accused. The court allowed the request and the case was adjourned until October 14 while awaiting related reports.
