The Kremlin is employing new deceptive tactics to encourage young people from temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories to join the Russian military in the ongoing conflict. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), which reported on Facebook, these methods involve promoting a narrative of a young man from Donetsk who allegedly studies at a university while serving under a military contract.

The CCD emphasizes that propagandists highlight a special contract format for such students and encourage other students to participate in the war. The agency states that these fabricated stories create the illusion that serving in the Russian army entails easy money, status, and social guarantees, thereby romanticizing the war.

The CCD suggests that by employing these straightforward manipulations, the Kremlin aims to recruit as many young individuals as possible to offset significant losses incurred during the war. Beyond imposing Russian identity upon residents of the occupied territories, the Kremlin aspires to utilize this population as a resource to sustain the war efforts.
