Minister Khaled Hashem declared that the alloys industry is a vital component of Egypt's industrial strategy and a crucial support to iron, steel, and heavy industries. Speaking during his inaugural visit to the Abu Zenima Industrial Zone in South Sinai on August 16, 2026, Hashem highlighted the significance of silicon-manganese and ferromanganese alloys produced by the Sinai Manganese Company.

These alloys enhance the quality of finished products by eliminating impurities, raising steel purity, and boosting mechanical properties such as hardness, corrosion resistance, and durability. He further explained that the growing demand for alloys in Egypt's and global engineering and construction sectors is strengthening Sinai Manganese's role in boosting local production, decreasing import reliance, and cutting production-input costs.

The Egyptian Ministry is actively working to expand industries that support the iron and steel sector, integrate them into local and global supply chains, and enhance the added value and competitiveness of Egyptian products. This strategy aims to reduce imports, foster local manufacturing, and expand export opportunities. Hashem, in collaboration with the South Sinai Governorate and relevant authorities, is developing the Abu Zenima Industrial Zone, upgrading its utilities, identifying industries that suit the zone's resources, and providing the skilled workforce required for future factories.

The Minister was welcomed by South Sinai Governor Ismail Kamal and Saad Abu El-Maati, Chairman of the Chemical Industries Holding Company. Accompanying him were Assistant Minister of Industry for Strategic Industries Mohamed Zada, Hussein El Ghazawy, the minister's energy adviser, and officials from the ministry, the holding company, and Sinai Manganese.

The alloys plant is situated on a 23,500-square-meter site with EGP 2.5 billion in investments and EGP 300 million in capital. Currently, its capacity is 18,000 tons annually, with a goal of increasing this to 50,000 tons by the end of 2028. Local content comprises approximately 60% of the production, while 49% is exported to Türkiye, Libya, and Italy.
