‘If you want to imprison me over my friendship with Bawumia, go ahead’ – Rev. Kusi Boateng

Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, Founder and Leader of Power Chapel Worldwide, asserts his willingness to endure imprisonment rather than sever ties with his friendship with former Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. The statement was made in a video posted on social media, where he vehemently defended his relationship with Dr Bawumia and his wife, Hajia Samira Bawumia, despite the criticism surrounding their association.

Boateng expressed no intention of distancing himself from the couple for fear of imprisonment, stating, "If for this reason, anybody wants to imprison me, go ahead." He recalled his previous imprisonment, emphasizing that it did not deter him, and vowed to remain steadfast. Boateng firmly declared that his friendship with Dr Bawumia was not a crime and that he would not refrain from openly discussing the relationship to appease his critics.

He emphasized that Dr Bawumia and Hajia Samira Bawumia were close friends and family, firmly stating, "I don’t care whoever thinks about it. Dr Bawumia is my friend and will continue to be my friend. I will not hide. I am not a hypocrite." The National Cathedral project, where Boateng previously served as Secretary, is the backdrop for these comments.

The project has been under scrutiny due to investigations by the Commission for Revenue Accountability (CHRAJ), the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Deloitte, and a forensic audit commissioned by the current administration. Despite being cleared of specific allegations, Boateng became a focal point after being petitioned by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in 2023.

The controversy, which includes allegations of conflict of interest, financial impropriety, and procurement issues, has resulted in multiple investigations and court rulings, including a dismissal of an appeal by Boateng in March 2026.
