Hainan and Dubai explore new opportunities in tourism and wellness

Hainan Province, a tropical island in the South China Sea, and Dubai, a modern city on the Arabian Gulf, are finding more common ground in tourism, wellness, and culture, despite their stark differences in landscape and tradition. Hainan, China's southernmost province, boasts year-round temperatures around 22-24 degrees Celsius, an extensive coastline of over 1,900 kilometers, and the world's largest free trade port.

This attracts preferential policies for tourism, business, and medical wellness. Dubai, on the other hand, is known for its business-friendly environment, modern architecture, and diverse cultural scene.

Visa-free travel between the two destinations has made it easier for visitors to explore Hainan. Citizens of 86 countries, including the UAE, enjoy visa-free entry for up to 30 days, covering most categories except formal employment or long-term study. The Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, China's only national-level special medical zone, is a key player in this cooperation.

It allows the import of advanced pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health products for use by patients before completing registration on the Chinese mainland. This zone has attracted medical tourism delegations from Dubai, offering high-end medical services tailored to Middle Eastern visitors.

Hainan's tourism has evolved beyond traditional landmark sightseeing, incorporating culture, wellness, gastronomy, and local life. Visitors can explore century-old Qilou Old Street, enjoy local tea rituals, or witness China's only coastal spacecraft launch site. Dubai, as a global crossroads, has embraced Chinese culture and wellness practices, creating deeper connections with Hainan.

This mutual permeation of cuisine, wellness, culture, and lifestyle is strengthening ties between communities on both sides, paving the way for more substantial cooperation in the future.
