Gachagua hosts Nyeri grassroots mobilisers in bid to consolidate his turf

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua convened a gathering of over 3,000 grassroots mobilisers from Nyeri County on August 17, 2026, to reinforce his political foundation in the Mount Kenya region prior to the 2027 General Election. The consultative meeting aimed to consolidate support in his home region while expanding his political networks ahead of the upcoming elections.

Gachagua addressed the attendees, noting their curiosity about his decision to host political delegations from other parts of the country before meeting with people from his home region. He responded by emphasizing the deliberate nature of his approach, stating that he wanted to listen to the concerns of residents from other counties before turning his focus to Nyeri.

"They asked why I was hosting delegations from Kericho, Bomet, Narok, Kajiado, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and others without first meeting with people from my own region," Gachagua recalled.

He explained that his initial engagement with leaders from other counties was intended to understand their perspectives and concerns, before directing his attention to his home constituency. Gachagua stressed the significance of maintaining robust grassroots networks within his political base, reassuring the mobilisers that people from his home region remain a crucial component of his political strategy. "Home is the best, whether you're from the East or the West," he asserted.

The meeting occurs as political activity surges nationwide ahead of the 2027 General Election, with politicians increasingly focusing on grassroots mobilisation. For Gachagua, securing a strong presence in the Mount Kenya region is anticipated to be pivotal to his electoral strategy.
