Dutch women win 4x400m relay for fifth European gold medal

The Dutch women's 4x400m relay team secured the Netherlands' fifth gold medal at the European athletics championships. Lieke Klaver and Femke Broeders-Bol, both bronze medallists in the individual 400m and 800m events respectively, were added to the team for this race. They led the British team by a significant margin on the first two legs, but the British team managed to close the gap on leg three.

Broeders-Bol overtook Emily Newnham by the 300m mark and held her lead throughout the race, finishing half a second ahead in a time of 3 minutes 21.1 seconds. The Dutch men's team also won a bronze medal, their first in the 4x400m relay, with a photo finish against Belgium. This victory completed the Netherlands' most successful performance at a European athletics championships, with a total of 14 medals, including five golds.
