Army strengthens security along Sokoto-Kebbi border over Lakurawa threat

The Nigerian Army has bolstered its security measures along the Sokoto-Kebbi border, in response to renewed threats attributed to the Lakurawa terrorist group. Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, confirmed these measures during a visit to Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The visit included a tour of the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe and nearby communities, conducted in response to reports of a fresh assault on Ungushi community within the local government area. Koughna engaged with local leaders and residents, gathering their insights on the security situation and addressing their concerns. He assured the residents that the military forces are on high alert to safeguard lives and property.

The General emphasized the Army's commitment to swiftly and decisively respond to emerging threats, preventing terrorist entities from establishing bases in border communities. He implored the locals to maintain calmness, continue their routine activities, and cooperate by providing reliable intelligence about suspicious movements within their communities.

This visit is part of ongoing efforts by the 8 Division to review and reinforce its security infrastructure, aimed at responding to threats along the Sokoto-Kebbi border.
