Agihan kerusi BN-PN wajar ikut kekuatan semasa bukan PRU15, kata pemimpin Umno

Pahang's Umno chief Haris Salleh Hamzah has suggested that the formula for the 2016 General Election (PRU16) should not be based solely on the results of the 2015 election (PRU15). According to Haris, the key factors to consider are the strength of each party's organization, voter support, track record of work, and the winning potential of candidates in a particular area.

He acknowledged that the previous election's results could only serve as a reference point, as the political landscape could change depending on voter sentiment, current issues, and party acceptance. He reminded the readers that the past should be respected as history, but the present needs to be evaluated as reality. Haris was speaking to FMT about the possibility of BN cooperating with Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the upcoming election.

He expressed openness to giving the PN party in Pahang a chance, if BN cooperates with their alliance. Meanwhile, Umno Pahang Chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail had previously stated that a BN-PN cooperation in PRU16 is not an impossible task. The PAS Pahang representative, Rosli Abdul Jabar, also indicated readiness to discuss the distribution of seats and the selection of a Chief Minister with Umno.

In the 2015 election, Umno contributed 16 out of the 17 DUN seats won by BN, while PAS, contesting under the PN banner, won 15 seats. BN, however, formed the government in Pahang after joining Pakatan Harapan, which held eight seats. Umno Pahang's Public Relations Officer, Shahaniza Shamsuddin, said her faction is currently seeking feedback from Umno's grassroots on the cooperation idea.

Haris, who is also a former DUN Adun Pahang, said any cooperation should be based on trust, tolerance, and give and take.
