Winnipeg Sea Bears win CEBL championship for 1st time in franchise history

The Winnipeg Sea Bears have secured their first-ever Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) championship title in franchise history. The team, despite lacking star forward Teddy Allen due to injury, emerged victorious against the visiting Brampton Honey Badgers with a score of 98-84. The championship game was originally scheduled as a three-game series, but the initial match was suspended due to condensation on the court in Brampton, and subsequently canceled.

In lieu of a full three-game final, the league opted to use a single game from 2019 to 2025 to crown the champions.

Finals MVP Xavier Moon played a crucial role in the Sea Bears' success, scoring 29 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Simon Hildebrandt contributed 24 points and six rebounds. Moon expressed his excitement about returning to this environment and being able to win in a city that had never won a playoff game before. He emphasized the special nature of this achievement for both his teammates and the city of Winnipeg.

Sean East the Second led the Honey Badgers with 27 points and five assists, while Trentyn Flowers added 20 points. The Honey Badgers, finishing second in the Eastern Conference, overcame losses to the Saskatoon Mamba and Vancouver Bandits in the East playoffs to reach the final. East II acknowledged the team's hard-fought effort, noting that while they did not secure the title, they were pleased with the progress made in improving the Brampton program.

The Sea Bears, who ranked second in the Western Conference, had previously defeated the Saskatoon Mamba and Vancouver Bandits in the West playoffs to secure their spot in the final. They expressed pride in their organization's accomplishments, despite not winning the championship.
