‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Joins $2 Billion Box Office Club

Sony/Marvel Studios' latest film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the eighth movie to gross $2 billion at the global box office. This remarkable feat was solidified after its strong launch at the end of July, where it earned $360 million domestically and $927 million worldwide. Critics and audiences alike praised the movie, contributing to its impressive reception.

With a $70 million domestic third weekend, "Brand New Day" is on track to keep moving past other post-COVID megahits such as "Avatar: The Way of Water" and "Ne Zha 2" to potentially reach the $2.5 billion mark before inflation adjustment. This would place it among the elite group of films like "Avatar" and "Avengers: Endgame."

The film's domestic earnings are also pushing it towards shattering the $936 million record previously held by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Currently, "Brand New Day" is on track to surpass that mark with $785 million after three weekends, which is 5.6% ahead of the pace set by "Force Awakens."

Despite concerns about its ability to become the first movie to gross $1 billion from domestic receipts alone, projections suggest that "Brand New Day" could still surpass "The Force Awakens" with a final total of around $960 million. In the current box office rankings, "The Odyssey" from Universal/Syncopy is in second place with $23.2 million in its second weekend, pushing it past $500 million in domestic grosses as it continues to show strong legs.
