We need to pray for GoldBod – Duncan-Williams

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has urged Ghanaians to pray for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). He warned that the institution is facing a formidable adversary, describing it as a "very powerful movement". This opposition stems from individuals in the gold trade who are concerned about increased controls on illegal gold purchases. These individuals are reportedly seeking alternative methods to access Ghana’s gold through GoldBod.

The Archbishop expressed concern about GoldBod potentially dealing with influential figures who have extensive knowledge of the gold industry and significant financial resources. These powerful individuals are resistant to any changes that would improve the gold sector's integrity. Duncan-Williams also highlighted the magnitude of Ghana’s illegal gold trade, recalling a conversation with members of a ruling family in the Middle East.

He was told that the quantity of Ghanaian gold traded illegally was three times the official government records.

The revelation deeply disturbed him, as he saw it as a serious threat to Ghana’s future. The illegal gold trade, he argued, is connected to broader issues such as illegal mining, which harms Ghana’s water bodies, farmlands, and food production. He warned that political considerations should not overshadow the enforcement of laws designed to safeguard the country’s resources.

Therefore, he urged Ghanaians to pray for their country and for GoldBod as it works to regulate the gold trade and combat illegal activities within the sector.
