Wangamati’s convoy attacked on its way to Linda Mwananchi Homa Bay rally

Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati reported that his convoy was ambushed by a group of assailants at Asumbi Junction on his route to Homa Bay on Sunday, August 16, 2026. In a Facebook post, Wangamati denounced the escalating political animosity, stating that the attack transpired while he and his team were en route to Homa Bay for the Linda Mwananchi rally.

He lamented, "Attacked by goons at Asumbi junction on our way to Homa Bay." The governor emphasized that the incident would not deter the political engagements planned in Homa Bay, announcing, "Nonetheless, Homa Bay will receive us," followed by the phrase "Mungu Mbele." This assertion comes in the backdrop of heightened political tensions in Homa Bay ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally, where the movement associated with ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and other political dignitaries is set to hold a significant mobilisation event.

Reports of roadblocks, including the burning of tires at Oyugis Junction, have fueled concerns over potential disruptions as participants journey to the political gatherings. In Nyandiwa, where the movement planned to commence its rally at 10 a.m., tensions were reported to be palpable prior to the arrival of Sifuna and his associates.

The movement's schedule encompasses rallies in Nyandiwa, Sindo, and Homa Bay Town, with Sifuna sharing a photo of a boat, expressing optimism despite the reported roadblocks. His upbeat message, posted as he prepared for the political engagements, hinted at the possibility of utilizing a water route if road access became compromised.
