Unstoppable Qistina defies doctors to clinch Sukma gold

Kajang witnessed Qistina Qharisya Muzani's powerful performance as she broke new records and claimed gold in the women's under-48kg class at the Selangor Malaysia Games (Sukma) on Sunday. The weightlifter managed to lift 72kg in the snatch and 82kg in the clean and jerk, securing a total score of 154kg. This marks a significant achievement, as the under-48kg class is a new addition this year, replacing the previous under-49kg category.

Qistina's impressive feat took on added significance, as her victory came in her last Sukma appearance due to her age restrictions. Last year, her promising career was nearly cut short when a motorcycle accident in September left her with serious injuries to her right hand, including a fractured scaphoid and severely damaged ligaments. Doctors advised her to stop weightlifting, but she was determined to make a comeback. Despite ongoing pain and the need for painkillers, she continued training, defying medical advice.

Her determination paid off at the Sukma Games, where she outperformed her competitors. Terengganu's Nur Arrissya Nadia Mohamadnor Wardi came in second with a total score of 144kg (63kg, 81kg), while Pahang's Nur Dania Nasyiha Abdullah secured the bronze with 130kg (55kg, 75kg). Qistina's emotional victory was a testament to her resilience, as she not only honored her team and family but also paid tribute to her late career.
