Ukraine’s Mahuchikh Wins Third Consecutive European High Jump Gold

Yaroslava Mahuchikh, a Ukrainian athlete, secured her third consecutive European High Jump gold medal at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, England. She leaped to a height of 1.97 meters, marking her third consecutive victory following wins in 2022 and 2024.

Entering the competition at 1.92 meters, Mahuchikh aced the bar on her first attempt. She then required two attempts to clear 1.95 meters, before clearing the higher 1.97 meters on her first try. Three unsuccessful attempts followed at 2.01 meters, ultimately securing her gold.

Fellow Ukrainian Iryna Herashchenko, who had cleared heights of 1.83, 1.88, and 1.92 meters, faltered at 1.95 meters and finished in fifth place. Poland’s Maria Zhodzik claimed silver, while Montenegro’s Marija Vukovic took bronze, both clearing 1.95 meters but failing all attempts at the gold-winning height.

With this win, Mahuchikh ties the record of Spain’s Ruth Beitia, who achieved the feat in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Beitia also became an Olympic champion in 2016, whereas Mahuchikh won gold at the 2023 World Championships. Prior to Birmingham, Mahuchikh secured a gold at the 2023 World Indoor Championships, clearing 2.01 meters, with Ukrainian Yuliia Levchenko taking silver with a jump of 1.99 meters.
