Two killed as Russia targets Kryvyi Rih with missiles and drones

Russian forces launched a missile and drone attack on the city of Kryvyi Rih overnight on August 15-16, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and causing significant damage to industrial facilities. The death toll stands at two, with the body of a 44-year-old man being recovered from the rubble, according to Kryvyi Rih Defense Council head Oleksandr Vilkul.

The ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih steel plant was targeted by the Russian forces, with fourteen employees and contractors sustaining injuries, as reported by Suspilne, citing the company. Key facilities supporting the plant's energy and blast-furnace operations were damaged, leading to a partial halt in production.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast authorities reported at least 13 additional injuries in the attack, with a 48-year-old man hospitalized in serious condition and ten others admitted with moderate injuries. Further medical examinations are being conducted for other victims. In response to the attack, emergency crews continued search-and-rescue operations and worked to control fires at the strike sites.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Oleksandr Hanzha stated that "Enemy forces struck Kryvyi Rih. They attacked industrial facilities. A fire broke out. Rescuers are working at the scene."

Explosions were also reported overnight in Kyiv, Poltava, and Dnipro, with fires breaking out in the Ukrainian capital following the Russian attack.
