Trump Asks Voters To Accept $4 Gas Prices for War They’re Not Behind

President Donald Trump is urging Americans to accept increased gas prices as a patriotic cost of fighting the war against Iran, despite most U.S. adults wanting the conflict to cease and believing the nation should not have entered it in the first place. The rise in gas prices can be attributed to disruptions in oil production and supply due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has led to skyrocketing oil prices.

Currently, national gas prices in the U.S. average $4.06 per gallon, a nearly 30 percent increase from a year ago and more than a dollar above the pre-war average of $3.14. This surge has driven up overall inflation in recent months, causing many to question whether Trump is honoring his promise to reduce the cost of living for everyday Americans.

At a rally in New York, Trump defended the gas price increase, stating that it is necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, while also hinting at the possibility of declaring the Strait of Hormuz a U.S. territory. However, recent polls indicate that inflation-weary Americans, who are already concerned about rising gas prices, are unlikely to accept this sacrifice.

A Pew Research Center poll found that 62 percent of Americans disapproved of Trump's handling of the Iran war, with 48 percent stating that the administration had not been clear on its goals. An Ipsos poll showed that 51 percent of Americans thought the U.S. military action in Iran was not worth the cost, and 58 percent expected gas prices to worsen over the next year as a result of the conflict.
