TMC leader's suicide: CM Suvendu vows probe into possible 'threat' angle

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari pledged to investigate the suicide of TMC leader Asish Banerjee, in order to determine if any threats were made against the former deputy speaker. The CM made these remarks after Banerjee died by hanging at a Trinamool Congress office in Rampurhat, Birbhum district, reported PTI. Adhikari expressed concern over the possibility of corrupt individuals within the TMC threatening Banerjee.

Banerjee's body was sent for post-mortem examination following his discovery on Sunday morning. Questions have been raised about the circumstances surrounding his death, with some demanding an impartial probe. TMC legislator Kunal Ghosh, who also called for an independent investigation, suggested that Banerjee had mentioned mental pressure and fears of social stigma in his suicide note.

Ghosh further alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party should assume responsibility for the incident, and referred to Banerjee as a "Good Trinamool," possibly alluding to his association with a faction led by expelled leader Ritabrata Banerjee. BJP MLA Dhruba Saha, who defeated Banerjee in the recent Assembly election, expressed shock over the leader's death and claimed he had only recently met him.

Saha questioned why a five-time MLA would commit such an extreme act and urged for an investigation into the reasons behind the development, possibly to explore other potential motives.
